Zero Waste Kimono

16 July 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

£20.00

Learn a more holistic form of pattern cutting used in making traditional Japanese style kimono robes. In this workshop we use the whole fabric width to draft and sew a kimono robe with no waste leftover.
The kimono is a traditional style of Japanese dress that wraps around the body and has voluptuous sleeves.

In this session we we guide you through the process of making a zero-waste kimono robe. Firstly we will transfer a set of measurements and draw lines directly onto the cloth using tailors chalk and a ruler. From here, our newly formed rectangles will become the basis of the shape to sew our robe together. You will gain vital skills using the overlocker and the sewing machine, and become familiar with the specialist techniques required to construct a garment with no waste.
